Exeter Culture is recruiting new Advisory Group members
Exeter Culture (EC) is the city’s arts and cultural development programme. In 2019, Exeter Culture oversaw the creation of the first distinctive Place-based Cultural Strategy for Exeter, which continues to provide the focus for our activity. Exeter Culture’s funders are Exeter City Council and the University of Exeter, with discrete project funding provided by Arts Council England.
The strategic objectives of EC are to build the quality of arts and cultural opportunities in Exeter, strengthen the cultural sector, grow the creative industries and promote the city’s arts and culture offer.
Through the continued delivery of the Place-based Cultural Strategy, in collaboration with multiple partners and stakeholders, Exeter Culture is playing an increasingly strategic role to ensure that the city can achieve its ambitions for sustainable and inclusive economic and social development.
The Advisory Group plays a crucial role in advising and supporting the executive team of Exeter Culture in their programme of work and planning. The Advisory Group also further supports the independent voice of the cultural sector, which is of utmost importance for the programme.
Following a review of the current Advisory Group, we are now seeking to recruit new Advisory Group members who can demonstrate a commitment to the cultural sector of the city. We specifically are seeking individuals who have a range of skills, knowledge and expertise, in these areas particularly:
Housing development and planning
Diversity and inclusion work
Environmental sustainability
Health & wellbeing
Please note that experience of previously being a member of a Board or similar group is not essential as we want to encourage a range of applicants. Additional understanding or experience in any of the areas of fundraising, PR & marketing, local business engagement and local government would be advantageous.
If applicants do not live or work in or near the local area, they should explain why they are interested in the position.
Members of the Advisory Group are included as individuals and not as a representative of an organisation or entity.
The Advisory Group meets on a quarterly basis and may establish sub groups for further meetings to discuss specific items. The time commitment is likely to be up to one day a month. While Advisory Group roles are not remunerated, stipends and fees for freelancers are available to ensure accessibility is equal and inclusive and can be discussed with the Director and Chair.
Exeter Culture also makes a commitment to training and development of its Advisory Group. A training plan will be developed accordingly with the new Advisory Group.
Further details (including the Role Specification and Terms of Reference) are available from Belinda Dillon at b.dillon@exeter.ac.uk. For an informal conversation or meeting about the role, contact Dom Jinks, Creative Places Manager and Exeter Culture Programme Lead, at d.j.jinks2@exeter.ac.uk to arrange a suitable time.
Exeter Culture has equality, diversity and inclusion as one of our underpinning values. We are committed to providing equality of opportunity in all areas of dealing with staff, whether in recruitment and selection, promotion or training and development. We will ensure all applicants go through a fair, widely advertised and transparent process of recruitment
